Subject: AMIE Recognition with NBA-AICTE
Dear Major General (Retd) R K Sanan,
Sincere compliments of the day.I am writing to check the initiative taken by Institution of Engineers (India) with regards to December 06,2012 Memo issued by MHRD as they have planned to withdraw recognition from 31st May 2013.This is very serious and critical scenario not only for current students ,but also will impact past pass out graduates as number of prospective employers will be demanding AICTE/NBA accredited Degree in Engineering and nobody will be bothered to look into recognition list of past. This will affect huge number of students and Engineers with Professional Degree from IE India,AeSI,IME,ICE,IETE etc.
I have been involved with British system of Engineering Council-UK and IMechE(UK) as National Assessor for Part 1,2 & 3 Examinations where they award Graduate Diploma award at par with British Bachelor Honours Degree .One of major difference I have noted is that though the examinations of EC-UK which was later on conducted by City & Guilds UK on behalf of EC-UK is that course work and labs were run at accredited colleges and Universities accredited by Engineering Council-UK.This was something missing in big way in Associate Membership Examination conducted by ICE (India),IE India,AeSI,IME,IETE etc.
This matter is serious one and cannot be undermined if your team wishes to run Accredited program under NBA /AICTE in future.Indian Court cannot resolve this issue as its beyond their capability to advise what needs to be done to assure that program is accredited.Once your team and other Professional Societies follow the similar pattern I am sure AICTE/NBA would not have objection to proper recognition from them.I have spoken with Professor B Sonde ,NBA Chairman in last few weeks and he acknowledged situation was very critical and dangerous because MHRD recognition letter for all Professional Societies will cease after 31st May 2013.Indian Court will reject all such pleas for recognition from Professional Institution as they have done in past where they have rejected AMIE and other professional Societies pleas.Institution of Surveyors (India) has been trying to get fresh recognition of their program as Bachelor Degree from AICTE including The Aeronautical Society of India which has been trying to get accreditation as Bachelor Degree in Engineering from AICTE too. Please find below copy of mail attached from Professor B S Sonde who acknowledge that situation was very critical in India with regards to recognition issue of Professional Degree holders.
I am National Assessor for IMechE(UK ) with regards to Engineering Council-UK and also National assessor for Engineers Australia and would be pleased to help in case of Professional Institutions running out of ideas how to deal with current scenario. It is not healthy for Engineering Profession in India as there are more than lakhs of Professional Degree holders from IE India,IME,ICE,AeSI ,IETE etc.I have never seen such accreditation issues in UK with regards to EC-UK Graduate Diploma Award which is recognized as British Bachelor Degree (Honors) in Engineering either for employment or further studies any where in England.
Appropriate actions from all of you would be very much appreciated at least for the concern of students and Engineers of concerned Institution. Approaching court is not right course of action under the current scenario as its likely they will reject all such pleas and it will just kill more and more time and increase anxiety of AMIE Degree holders and other professional institution degree holders.
Best regards
